Hydrotherapy
Hydrotherapy is the use of water in the treatment of different conditions, rehabilitation, and exercise. It is held in an aquatic pool and usually the water temperature is between 33–36ºC, which is warmer than a typical swimming pool.
Benefits of Hydrotherapy include:
- The water supports body weight which helps relieve pain
- The warmth of the water helps muscles to relax and eases pain
- Increase function, strength, and range of movement
- Improve fitness
All individuals can benefit from Hydrotherapy, however some Paediatric conditions that can specifically benefit from Hydrotherapy include:
- Juvenile Arthritis
- Muscular Dystrophy
- Hypotonia (decreased muscle tone)
- Spina Bifida
- Hypermobility Syndrome
- Cerebral Palsy
- Acquired Brain Injury
- Autism Spectrum Disorder
